There is an issue with role permissions that is being worked on at the moment.

Do you think message boards are a good source to glean information?

I use Boards.ie Current Affairs and other such forums as portals for more information. Do you think they actually aid debate or not? Do people actually want to get new perspectives or just a soapbox to spout off their own views?

    Depends on the information.

The specialist forums tend to be great.

The general discussion forums are about as bad as they've ever been. The influence of Twitter and a polarised United States I fear.

Most people don't want their opinion changed (which is fine) but these days people don't even want their opinion challenged. I would still read a lot of online debate but I tend not to participate as a lot of it is childish and vicious but it's important to temper it with opinions from the real world, whether that be work or friends.

As above, the specialist forums are, for the most part, fantastic.

The general forums, like Current Affairs, are generally peopling pushing their opinion with no chance of changing their own. There are changes to learn when reading but I'd suggest that few enough people go into the threads with open minds.
