    Hi All,
I last built a gaming PC about 12 years ago - so have rough idea of what is involved - but completely out of the loop on current hardware.
Young lad is interested in building a PC and will be a nice project to keep him busy.
I know the budget might be tight as I require all peripherals and OS.
    Many thanks.

    1. What is your budget? [€1200ish]

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming. Steam Platform. FPS type games. Need for Speed maybe. Minecraft.

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? Yes

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No

    5. Do you need a monitor? Yes, 24" I think?

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? Yes - Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes

    8. When are you purchasing? This month

I've probably over spent on the keyboard and mouse but if he's using it for gaming its probably worth it. Outside of that, it's a very solid build. Works out around 1136 EUR. The monitor is reviewed well and I've an AOC myself, but I think where possible it's better to see these first hand

No offense but that's a bad spec for €1200.
Will come back to this thread after work.

The peripherals destroy the budget, looking forward to what you come up with

Yeah that's a really unbalanced build. A €40/€50 keyboard and mouse is more than enough. Even putting aside €200 for the monitor + keyboard/mouse, 1K for an RX580 build is definitely not right.

This for example has a RTX2060 graphics card and a 144hz monitor for €1,200. Windows can either be installed free or get a key for €5 off Ebay.

Obviously this is just an example - not saying to get these exact parts but it's an example of better balance.

Thanks very much for all of the suggestions above - it has started me on the right track - I hadn't a clue where to start.
I know I've made the budget tight with having to add in peripherals too.

Supposing I was to add another €150-200 to the budget - where would you spend it? Would there be a particular component or two that would be worth throwing a few more quid at?

A couple more into motherboard, GPU, PSU.
    Get a FreeSync monitor.
    Maybe change case (not necessary).

Better late than never....I meant to thank barryribs, K.O.Kiki and Homelander for their suggestions.

This is the PC I eventually built in July:

    CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor
Motherboard MSI B450M PRO-VDH MAX AMD Socket AM4
GPU Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 6GB
    Memory Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x 8GB) 3200MHz DDR4
HardDisk Adata XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB
    PSU EVGA White 600W 80+
Case CoolerMaster MasterBox Q300L Windowed micro-ATX/ITX PC Gaming Case
    Monitor AOC 24G2U/BK 23.8"
Keyboard TECKNET Mechanical Keyboard 88 Keys
Mouse SteelSeries Rival 3 - Gaming Mouse

All in - it cost just under €1,200

It runs like a dream and can handle anything I've thrown at it so far (Battlefield V, Battlefront II,etc)
