    Hi all,

In preparation for FTTH, I am trying to upgrade the network of my parents house. The primary issues are they need decent security as it is an isolated farm and also would like decent wifi throughout the house.

I've drafted up this network, would you have any thoughts, particularly on what POW WiFi Access Point would be best and what POE switch also. I'm thinking bog standard 8 port POE would do the job? For server, we have an old dell PC that we were going to put an old Windows 2012 server on and then run Blue Iris on that.

    Embed for readability.

If you're tech support for the parents Id make sure you have two beachheads into the network unless you live next door. IPMI is good but dont expose it to the public net. RPi as an SSH server would be good.

From the graphic it looks like you intend to use the ISP CPE + one Ubi for wifi, you might get better roaming (less support calls) using 2+ Ubi and their controller software running on the server vs mixing with an uncontrolled Sagecom or whatever.

Depending on who your ISP is you could drop their kit altogether as the ONT is what matter and thats fixed. Use the existing run to the WAN of your own router in the comms cab/shelf.

Oh and run more cable than you think you need for when the inevitable "can we add a camera here Im worried about X" comes along.

Thank you very much for the response and I agree with your comments on the WiFi in particular. Have updated the design as below. For the VMS, i'd like to use Blue Iris on an old PC that I would install windows server on. Would you have any suggestions for a reasonably priced 16/24 port POE switch?
