You can still apply for it online, it goes into a queue and when they return to work (unknown date) it will get done eventually. Post office isnt an option at this time

    I sent mine in yesterday.

in emergency you need to contact webchat https://www.dfa.ie/passportonline/

Contrary to reports in the media yesterday online applications & renewals are being processed

I applied for a renewal on 18th May & received my passport on 29th.

If the application is complicated by a requirement for further documents to be submitted the application will likely be delayed.

We've a teen passport renewal sent in April, teen passport requires offline form to be sent in from both parents

not a sign of it budging, I've even emailed Joe ! we may or may not be travelling but its always best to have it and it be in date. Its usually such a great service, I'm worried they backlog will be enormous

I applied on the 13th of April and received my new passport today despite being told by webchat that no processing was being done whatsoever. They don't update the application tracking online.

Simon Coveney mentioned in the Dáil yesterday that 'online' is the preferred and quickest option at the moment. He said that the passport office was down on staff due to re-deployment during the current crisis.

He even suggested that if you have applied by post and have had an undue delay, apply again online and they will work on the online application and refund for the postal application.

Applied for passport for out teen with supporting documentation in march and nothing yet
got on to the chat and was told its an outside company dealing with the chat lines and that all passport staff had been redeployed and no passports were being processed

    Part of transcript

[10:15:30] Linda O: Currently, the passport office is closed, all officers have been redeployed and
all applications are on hold at the moment until we resume work. The Passport Service is following
the advice and guidelines of the HSE about Covid–19. Given the changing nature of the Covid-19
situation, we cannot give a time-frame of when the Passport Services will resume full services. As
soon as there is a date for work to resume processing applications, there will be a notice on our
website and twitter feed. https://www.dfa.ie/passports/ and https://twitter.com/passportirl?lang=en

Ordered a passport online yesterday the 6th.
Tracker this morning is giving the 18th as an estimated delivery.
    So 12 day estimated turnaround.
Past experience is the tracker tends to be conservative.
The passport card for some reason takes longer.

I think they are able to accept requests online, but it can be processed with delays, as many things now.

Unfortunately it hasnt worked like that for me paddy

Applied 29 May, still processing stage, the estimated issue date is 12 June but I think this is meaningless at the moment.

Hopefully itll arrive before mid July!

Would have thought the backlog would have been worked on first
But does not look like this is the case as you applied for yours on 29th may and your estimated is the 12th june

We applied on April 4 and now have an estimated of 25th june
must have just piled all the latest entry's on top of the earlier arrivals typical :-(

Is there no system of arrivals to iron out the disparity of some folks getting their passport in three days as opposed to 3 months ?
or is that too much to ask

It doesn't take 3 months to get a passport. Covid 19 shut down the country for 3 months including most non essential government departments. Staff were redeployed to emergency social welfare payments. Service and production has started again this week. Contact the passport office on email, phone or webchat if you are worried.

My guess is they have two streams one for simple automated renewals (like mine)
and another for passports that require manual intervention.

No point is slowing down the automated process,
it does not help clear the manual backlog.
