What's the best value antivirus software you can purchase online? Just bought a new 8GB 256SSD laptop for work so need a good antivirus before I start using it.

If you have Windows installed surely Window's own Defender would suffice?

Windows defender, Malwarebytes and weekly clean with CCleaner. Never had a hint of a problem, virus, malware or anything else.

Best antivirus I know is stay away from porn and torrents, especially given its work laptop.

Other than that chance of getting a virus are fairly slim. I definitely wouldn't be paying for antivirus.
Windows defender will have you covered really.

I have a 10 year old laptop with those exact specs. I added the SSD about 5 years ago. Never paid a cent for AV s/w, I let Windows look after it. Make sure that Windows is set to update automatically, it will update the built-in AV s/w daily and once a month it will download and run a malicious software removal tool.

And I agree with poster TopTec (post#3) above, do a Malwarebytes scan once a week and clean up frequently with CCleaner. Just keep running the free versions of both and ignore the nag screens encouraging you to buy a licence.

As far as I'm concerned, antivirus software is a self-perpetuating racket. The AV s/w companies are probably funding the creation of new viruses, just to keep themselves in business.

When you see that nutter McAfee and the antics he gets up to, maybe not such a conspiracy theory! He probably invented compuer viruses.

Avoid anti-virus suites that run non-stop.

I used to use HouseCall ( https://www.trendmicro.com/en_us/forHome/products/housecall.html ) if I wanted a scan of my system. I'd uninstall it afterwards. Not sure if it still behaves the same these days.

As others have said windows defender and common sense should protect you from 99% if threats.

I have some stuff on the lappy that work has installed.
Then occasionally I run HouseCall and Microsoft Safety Scanner

I am looking at buying a new Anti-Virus since, I recently had a mad problem with Norton 360. I got an registry editor error during a live update and was told to reinstall the program to fix the problem but, when I reinstalled it my product key stopped working. FFS like I wouldn't mind because, its quite old now I bought it in 2012 Problem is though I just paid 74.99 euro after it automatically renewed itself on my credit card bill. So, I paid for a new 1 year subscription but, I dont have anything. Looking at buying a new one I give up on Norton. What Anti-Virus is the best ? Also for the time being will Windows Defender be ok ? Will it protect my details using a credit card to buy stuff online ?
