Problem connecting iPad to TV?

    I'm hoping someone can help me please because I'm at a dead end.

    I have an iPad, an old-ish TV, a HDMI 2K Belkin Cable and an Apple Lightening AV Adaptor.

    The adaptor and hdmi cable cost me €85 and I still cannot stream from my iPad onto my TV.

    There are HDMI stickers on the TV, the SKY box is plugged into one of the ports but there is an identical port beside it. The HDMI cable will not fit into it!

    Apple told me HDMI cables are all standard size and not variable like USB's. When I unplugged the SKY cable to test the new cable it wouldn't fit either.

    Have I a really old HDMI port or something or do I need another adaptor or something.

    The port size is the same dimension size as the ends of the cable but the pins in the cable are much too small for the holes in the port, if that makes sense!

    Can anyone help before I send this all back!
