Exhaust question

Hi I have a question there. Got a diesel car 1.4 crdi engine hyuindai with dpf. Should the tailpipe be completely clean without any soot? I inspected the tailpipe it looks pretty clean a litley dark but can see the original metal, I used the flash light to have a close look because it's hard to see the end of it as it is under the car. What bothers me is that when you touch the tailpipe with your finger it leaves a little amouns of soot, I read the internet and they say it should not leave any soot.

I know i sound paranoic but I just want to ask, never had diesel before.

I drive on pretty fair distances, at 80-100 speeds, staying out of town as much as possible. Car feels all right all the times, has power etc.

So the question is a little soot is common? or it should be completely spotless and clean even when you touch it?

    thanks :)

Every ICE vehicle produces soot, diesels just make a bit more than petrol.

If you are getting close to the quoted MPG when driving then it's not an issue, if you are miles off the quoted MPG you'll need a mechanic to check it out.

There should be no visable soot in the tailpipe.

If you can see the original metal you should be fine. It's not an area immune to getting dirty so if you run your finger along it, it will still have road dirt etc on it which is probably what you seen.

Post a pic, we'll know for sure.

Abot the milage the computer is showing the consumption thats normal. Mixed consumption arround 4.7-4.8L/100km and during normaln journey 4.1L

Ye I was thinking that it could be the dirt too, tailpipes in them cars are faced down similar in toyotas and they look abit darker while VW and Audis when I checked them a bit are much cleaner because the tailpipe is not faced down to the ground. But I still think it's not just dirt but a bit of soot.

    thanks

I will upload the picture tomorrow morning.

Looks perfectly fine to me. I was expecting something caked with soot TBH but that exhaust is relatively clean. I don't think there is anything to worry about there.

Cheers, ye I don;t have diesel exp before that's why I asked, then I read some internet website when they said there should be no soot at all when you swipe the finger. In my case maybe it was dirt or very little amount of soot + dirt I don't know. Some website about the diesel cars try to scare people I think not to buy them...
