Parental leave & covid19

    I work a 40hr contracted week & take one day parental leave every 2nd week.

    All employees have been off paid contracted hours since March 16th. We’re due back June 29th.

    Every 2nd week my wage is still reflecting one day parental leave as I’m being paid 32hrs.

    Couple of questions -

    With all employees off not working should I have been paid my full contracted 40hrs each week?

    and

    Is it correct that my parental leave entitlement continues to be used during this period or should it have froze and resume on return to work?

    I know this is unchartered territory employment wise. Be nice if I could get the leave pushed out and better still a bit more of a wage if that’s my entitlement.

    Would you be best off asking your employer what the situation is?

    Where I work, I know people were having awful problems trying to figure out about their payments, parental leaves etc. Then we got an email at the end of March when this all started stating holidays, parental leave, days off etc werent going to be factored into our payments. Usually when I have a holiday I get double pay the week before and as its supposed to be my holiday week this week, I just got the normal company pay (which is way less than I get) and the covid payments that my job recieved. When I return to work, all Summer holidays that were previously approved can't be used. It was the same for parental leave. It wasn't on paused and if you're due to go back and your parental leave is over, then it's back to normal hours. If you still have continued leave then you can take them.

    Every company is different though. Give your employer a ring or an email and find out.
