I'm transferring ownership of a car to a family member. It's been off the road since Feb but not declared as such. Tax has lapsed since end of Feb. I know that the new owner will not be liable when transferred, but as the old owner, am I.

Can I be chased for it? By whom?

Can the new owner declare it off the road immediately because they Probably won't need it till late in the summer?

Just wait to transfer it until late summer and save your family a bit of paperwork?

+1 and wait until the first of the month to transfer it. Because if (e.g.) you transfer it on July 31st, the new owner has to tax it from July 1st.
