My lawnmower (1996) is starting to give trouble also. It runs perfectly for about half hour cutting. After that, if I stop the cutter blades to reverse back to dump out grass, the cutters won’t re-engage in forward gear... The last time out, I stopped with the blades running and dumped out the grass. The length of time is getting shorter, last year it ran for about three quarters of an hour. It's not the belts, as they were replaced last year.

    Husqvarna 316tx,
    https://www.husqvarna.com/ie/products/riders/r-316tx/967847401/

Traded in something similar, AWD as well, mowing deck was rotten, I maintain our local graveyard, it's very hilly, conventional rideon mower was a danger, AWD much surer and safer and very maneuverable,

Trade in would be great for a yard scraper , so maneuverable

It’s tie clutch for the blades.
Mine is electronic and starting to do the same. When it’s hot it can take a while to kick in. Been like that now for four years, hasn’t gotten any worse and if there is just modest grass I have the lawn cut before it becomes an annoyance.

On some clutches there is the option to adjust them but newer cheaper mowers it’s a replacement unit needed.

On my castlegarden it’s located on the bottom of the crank shaft below the drive pully.

I bought an American John Deere ride on mower a few years ago, one with a side chute up into collection bags. Thinking of getting rot of it coz it blocks too often. I let the grass goo to heavy, I should be cutting it once a week in the summer.

The one I have now is a bit like triggers brush it’s been nearly all replaced at this stage. Mower deck, engine and other bits and bobs it’s hitting 15 yrs old now. A few niggles with it. When it’s time to replace it I think robotic is the way before I’m old.

Few years ago I was looking for a new mower and spotted a S/H john deere with some sort of ball on the pipe where it exited the deck then pipe continued up to the collection box behind. It looked sorta fancy so I asked what sort of ball is that? His voice tone never changed as he replied "that's a ball of dung"

Whats the difference between AWD and 4wd?

In all wheel drive it's in 4wd all the time. 4wd machines can have the 4wd turned off like a tractor

Thanks Brian for the explanation. It’s a Westwood T1200 with an electromagnetic clutch.

On the phone to the main dealer, he said it may need a replacement gear box. I will cobble along with it for the time being and hope I am not doing further damage.

If only I were wealthy too, I would love one like Wrangler’s new model, with a front cutter deck.

Uncle drives one of them at work an hour or 2 a week and he says the AWD system is incredible how it will go up a wet incline . The perk is he gets to take it home and do his own lawn with it

Has said once he retires in 10 years he is buying himself one

My neighbor bought a robot mower recently.

Very impressive - instant lawnmower envy!

I have a JD ride on mower 42'' deck - good mower, 12 years old now.
No grass pick up on it just a 'mulching kit' essentially blocks the deck output to grind down the grass. Not good on wet lush grass by any means.
Recently invested in 'Gator blades' which help lift the grass and break down the grass better before being thrown from the deck.
I think the robot is the future if it suits your purpose but these blades and cut regularly helps.

Yea, very good mower, never gave any trouble, the kawasaki engine is bulletproof.
I would've had a great robot mower for half the price, but you couldn't leave it in a graveyard, I've been mowing the graveyard since I was a teenager ,it was done with three push lawnmowers years ago. OH drives the rideon now, hills are 45 degrees at least and she's about 5 stone lighter so have to be fair to the mower, I do the push mower around the graves
