Would an ex-taxi put you off?

A 10 yr old taxi with that mileage - either the laziest taxi driver ever, or clocked!

Any car for sale online with zero images is hiding something. Expect it is in pretty poor nick aesthetically.
Probably be fine for 6 months but you could take a fair hit when selling it on.

Also, 20K/annum as a taxi seems low but maybe if it was all city centre it is accurate.

(Above is uneducated opinion of non car focused individual mind)

Being an ex taxi wouldn't put me off if I was looking for something cheap. The lack of pictures or details in the ad would put me off.

Anyone recommend something around 3K. I'm returning to Ireland and basically need a car as soon as I land.

Thanks. Really just need it a car for a few months until i get myself setup properly here to get something half decent.

It's also a UK spec model so I'd like to know what mileage it had on it when it was living across the Irish sea. That 200k km could be 200k miles.

FYI, have a look in the bangernomics thread for recommendations.

    Heres one from there.
Worth a chance, put the €2350 into the bank for when you need to upgrade.

If it's just for short-term what about hiring a car? You can hire a Peugeot 108 for €240 per month, collect it when you land in Dublin Airport. Golf is under 300 quid for a month. Would give you time to find something. Looking for a car when you need a car doesn't always lead to the best outcome.
EDIT: Even over 6 months it doesn't work out too bad. If you've been away long enough to lose your no claims bonus then you're going to pay more than 1500 up front for insurance.

Is it really that cheap? Must look into that.

I've been away just under a year so should still have my no claims?

Your no claims will not be affected. However, even if it were, it would make more sense to buy a cheap car, pay the higher insurance premium & rebuild your no claims bonus.

Rather than spending a higher amount on rentals where the money is going down the drain and not allowing you to continue or build on your no claims.

If you're not going to use a car very much initially, then consider renting a Go Car by the hour on the days you actually will use it.

Yup, cheap as chips, no-one using them at the minute. No claims is fine for that amount of time but I'd think being able to just get in and go and keep funds liquid for when you find what you want in a bit.

I live in the countryside so a full time car is needed.

I'm going to ring a few garages where some cars i like Monday and try to arrange collection for when I'm home.

    Just to add....

It might have only been used as a Taxi for a couple of years. Without checking further , who knows ?

More importantly, if you ever purchase an Ex-Taxi, change it to 'Private' on the VLC before ringing Insurers for a quote. Many will not even quote on a Taxi ( the Taxation class will come up on their system)...despite it now being used for Private Use only .
