Want to store a long projector screen in my back garden and thought a pipe with some end caps would do the job. The pipe has to be 6 inch and all I can find in that dimension is wavin pipe with socket ends. The question is ... do 6 inch pipe caps fit the socket or do they fit the pipe without the socket. In other words, will the caps fit, if I cut the sockets off? Thanks!

The end cap is the same size as the pipe and needs the rubber sealing ring to hold it in place. You need a joining collar or the spigot on the end of the pipe to hold it in place. You can get a collar with a screw on cap. Used for rodding /inspection points.

I was looking at the inspection caps but they €30 each!

Was looking for a cheap and cheerful solution.

You could get a piece of pipe and heat the end with a heat gun or blow torch and push the end cap into the pipe. Drill 2 small holes for screws to hold it in place.

I was looking at 6in ducting pipe on Godwin’s, https://www.goodwins.ie/products/Ducting-Pipe-160mm-x-6mtr-Black.html?filter_set%5B%5D=2699,2707,2749 it’s cheaper than wavin but it doesn’t specify if it’s lightweight or plastic or metal. Does anyone know what ducting pipe is?

I also found some cap ends on amazon that are flexible pvc with a hose clip to keep it tight. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Flexible-End-Suit-160mm-Pipe/dp/B01D4PKE7Q They’d do the job, just need a Pipe now :)

they are plastic, used for laying pipes etc, so wont be as strong as wavin but if well supported will work, I like the stop ends, never knew they existed

It will indeed be well supported so looks like that's one little project sorted for me.

Thanks a mill to everyone for the advice. Much appreciated!

It'll probably serve the purpose but you'll need a screwdriver every time you need to open it.

Get a length of 6 inch/150mm pipe and put one of these of the correct size on the end that you want to close.

    https://www.topline.ie/plumbing-heating/plumbing/drainage-sewer/sewer-fittings/wavin/u-drain/pvc-sewer-pipe-end-cap-110mm

    And,

use one of these on the other end for access to the pipe.

Thats been said and the problem was the access fittings are €30 making that method too expensive.

Ah sure a screwdriver is no issue as long as it's water tight. It won't be used so often that it will be an annoyance.

Now Goodwins have temporarily suspended their online orders so that's my next issue :(

Was able to order loads of stuff before the DIY stores were reopened. Now can't order anything without actually going to the shop. Pain in the butt!

Looking for advice for the following.
I want to put a 4” wavin tee into an existing line.
Do I just need the tee piece ,cut the pipe, slip on the tee piece and push it over both sides or is there anything else I need.
I am having trouble with the washing machine drainage so I want to tap into this pipe. I have all the 40mm pvc etc got.
    Thanks in advance

Nope, but its not hard. You need to cut out a section of the existing pipe about twice the length of the length of the tee. Take into account when making the cuts that one will be where you are fitting the tee onto so needs to line up with anything else you are joining on. Then you cut the section you have removed so it makes up the gap and you use a slip joint (coupler) to make the final joint. There are other points to take into account like champhering the edges of the pipe and using plenty of lube, which should be mentioned in this video...

The underground sewer fittings normally have a female joint at each end so you only need the cut pipe and a slip joint no need for the pipe to have a coupling built in.
