Working Part Time and Claiming Benefits?

    Hi all,

Apologies if this was done before but I couldn't seem to find a thread on it.

I am currently working full time in a Manufacturing company (40 hours pw) however I have recently completed a Masters Degree down a different career path (healthcare).

I have now been offered a part time role(18.5 hours pw) in a hospital that would mean that I would no longer have the capacity to maintain my current job.

Given that I would be leaving my current job on my own volition, would I qualify for any form of benefits from working part time?

This new part time job would benefit my career in the long run and would hopefully lead me to full time work in the future, but I have to be pragmatic and look at this from a financial perspective too.

    Thanks in advance!

There is a 9 week waiting period if you left your job voluntarily without a really good reason, such as being bullied at work or something.

I don't know why a CWO wouldn't just ask why you can't wait until you find a full-time job in your preferred field rather than seeking benefits.

Will you be available for and actively seeking full time employment?

You'll have to meet regularly with a case worker, provide proof of your job applications and interviews.

Case worker will get you to apply for all and any available jobs too so bear that mind.

The only possible benefit you could get is WFP and/or OPFP and that would depend on you having dependent kids, a means test, and/or parenting alone.

    Hi all,

Thanks for your replies much appreciated.

I would anticipate that I would be working part time for quite a while if I took up the role as full time roles are not common at the moment unfortunately.

I would love to seek part-time work in another healthcare setting in order to subsidise this role but given the current situation, reducing the risk of infection spreading through individual healthcare workers across multiple settings has to be avoided so I would struggle to find anything else.

But thank you for providing me with this information, much appreciated!
