    I'll start.

Chinatown (1974) - great stills from a great film.

I hate "design" posters - give me hand painted everytime

    The one screams action!

A good example of the poster creating the action that is far too expensive to actually stage in the film itself.

Where Eagles Dare. There's a fortress in flames, nazis, action... what more can you ask for?

House. A demented image for a demented movie.

Excalibur. I love the colour on this one. Surprisingly good movie too, considering how relatively forgotten it seems to be.

Jurassic Park. That logo has a nostalgic pull for me, but I remember looking at it as a kid and being sold instantly by that silhouetted T-Rex skeleton.

The Farthest. It's almost deceptive - it doesn't really look like a documentary's poster to me.

Inherent Vice. I love the colour on this one.

The poster for the Ralph Bakshi animated Lord of the Rings movie is great looking but the animation in the film itself is nothing like it.

Arnie is in full on Frank Frazetta style Conan here:

Alien Covenant had a great poster campaign. There are several others that are quite good too, but this one was particularly striking.

Robin Hood movies generally have pretty good posters, but two stand out: Costner's version

And the parody that shortly followed it.

    Jaws.

So simplistic, yet so terrifying. As If this could happen to you. Swimming in the sea, minding your own business while something below is checking you out for dinner.

These 2 posters with the red sky on both create a great sense of foreboding.

Get rid of the floating heads - and this is perfect. I never like those stuck on heads, and while they're not so bad here (Hackman's is the worst) - they take away from what would be otherwise - perfect.

Anything by Drew Struzan especially "The Thing". There's a great documentary on him called Drew: The Man Behind the Poster

As an aside Polish movie posters were infamous for being "out there".
