    I’m looking at buying a lawnmower from Northern Ireland do I have to pay the 20% vat as I’m living in the south.

    If you are a business, with VAT recovery then no, the supplier will zero rate the supply, and you have 100% recoverability, assuming it's for your business.

    If you are a private individual not a business then yes you pay the VAT based on the place of supply rules applicable to goods, it the 20% rate in the North.
