The car is a 2004 Skoda Octavia with a high milage VW 110hp ASV 1.9 TDI, no DPF.
I've been using 5-30 fully synth 505.01 spec oil, however this time my VW dealer gave me Mercedes branded 5-30 MB 229.51
    I'm hoping it's suitable?
    Thanks for any ideas.

Yes will be fine. 505.01 was originally a PD spec oil but superceded by 504/507 spec oils which the 229.51 is. Usually marketed as longlife or you’d see C3 or BMW LL-04 on it also.

So in short you’ll be fine using it.

Cool, that's good to know, I stuck it in the car yesterday, back when the weather was good. Just looking for reassurance, I suppose, appreciate the help, thanks.
