Cut down water intake into big cistern

Hi Fo4 some reason.. out downstairs loo has a massive cistern. It doesn’t honed Hal& if the water it is flushing. The flush goes on for a good 30 seconds or more. Any tips to reduce the water it takes in. Many thanks
