Doing a bit of work in the front garden. Cleared out a massive bamboo which had been there for years and I’m putting in a couple of pittosporu and lobelia.

Anyway I’ve dug and redug many times now and feel I have the thing completely removed.

My question is, the soil that’s left has many clumps of small hairlike roots and wondering whether it’s necessary to take these out.

I ask because it will be basically essential for me to dig out all the clay that’s there now and replace it with tonnes of compost. My plan is to plant now as is, with a drop of compost and plenty of John innes.

    Will the bamboo come back?
