What paint over 5ply boards?

I have a cheap plywood floor down as a temporary floor (until I can afford to lay hard wood or laminate). The ply is splintering at the edges and already getting marked. Is there any paint that I could put on it to make it waterproof and hard wearing for approx a year? (Its in the kitchen and dining room).

Prob just polyurethane varnish it but be careful, it might be an idea to take up the screws first before painting. Trying to remove the ply after painting the screws would be impossible to remove filled with polyurethane.
