Car for 7 - 10k for city driving

Looking to buy my first car in around 7k - 10k for city driving. Won't really be using it for motorway driving. Was possibly looking at the toyota aygo. Would I be mad looking at a second hand EV for that budget?

    Key requirements:
    Suitable for city driving
Cheap Insurance/tax and good on fuel.

    Thanks

If you have access to a charge point for overnight charging then it would make sense to consider an EV.

Something like a Renault Zoe which is similar is size to an Aygo so ideal for city driving:

Careful with the Zoe. They mostly operate on a battery lease. You'll be charged I think something like €50 a month to lease the battery until the car dies, hence the seemingly affordable price of the car at 10k. It doesn't mention it, but very likely is a lease battery

To hell with that nonsense, just stick to a small petrol car so.

Something like a VW UP!, this one has air con which is fairly rare on cars of this class:

Have to agree. Unless you want to go electric (eco reasons etc), a small petrol is likely better value for you. Electric will be cheap to drive(couple of hundred a year for you including tax), but even old ones have a bit of a premium compared to similar age small petrols.

In my experience, EVs don't affect your insurance premium. Tax is cheap, servicing is pretty much zero at the age you'd be looking at. An old leaf could come in around 8-10k though. Max range of about 80-100km though.

    Thanks all.

Didn't know about the rental fee for the Zoe battery. That explains the lower price. Yes, have driveway where a charge point could be installed. Leaf did come to mind.

What would be the average KM on the clock for a car in this budget?

Looking at about a 30-35km round trip each day.

Not all Zoe have battery lease. If you are serious about electric car then talk to the specialist dealers
    Next Eco Cars
    Electric Autos(really good)

Those two as a starting point. Give budget and requirements, they will recommend.

I've been looking at VW Up! myself (around 2010-2014 for my budget) for a small first city car. Either manual or (preferably) automatic.

Are they usually considered decent? Or is the fact that they are a volkswagen lulling me into a false sense of security? :/
