Buying Lumber

    Hi all.

I'll be buying some lumber over the next few weeks for one or two projects around the house. One of these will be building a bed frame from pine/deal. I have tools for ripping and cross cutting planks, but nothing for planing or jointing.

Is it possible to buy lumber pre-planed and jointed, or if not, get it done by a retailer? If it's the former, are their any markings on the timber that will identify it as being suitable for this use, e.g. treated/dried in whatever way needed?

Also, any recommendations for somewhere to buy in the Dublin area?

    Thanks!

I know of no retailer who will risk doing joints for someone hand then being told they are wrong.

You buy the wood and do the work yourself. Try some, of the saw mills. They are generally cheaper.

PAO from a builders providers might be good enough, if you can pick the lengths yourself.

    Or...

I think Woodworkers do a cutting service too.

I'm not talking about doing joints. Maybe it's called something different here - putting a straight ("factory") edge on a board.

Yeah, PAO sounds like what I was after. Thanks Lumen.
