So just built a deck in the garden . Was going to throw some cuprinol anti slip deck stain down, but, I read on a few sites that you need to let the deck sit for about 3-6 months before putting any kind of stain on it.

    Is this true?

I'm not a fan of leaving wood , treated or untreated, to age. Combo of heat and rain and cold can lead to warping or cracking. Owatrol have a product called Seasonite ( I think) that soaks into the timber and causes the fibres to stick together, which helps minimise any of the above. You can stain or paint over it.
