Bit of an esoteric one here... but what the heck, it may appeal to some :pac:

I was in the market for a reasonable multi-vitamin... Covid19, Vitamin D and all that... and have been using Centrum Advance 50+. I had bought a bottle of 60 in Tescos for €13.05.

Well, that's run out and now that I need more I found an even better bulk price!

    Boots.ie...
Centrum Advance 50+, 180 tablets at €29.99... but also on a 3 for 2 offer.
Free shipping for purchases over €40 :)

So if you're a long term healthnut... that equates to €6.66 for a bottle of 60! So ~half price compared to the big T.

Of course I then turned around and bought something for Mrs Sector. So maybe not such a bargain in the end :D
    Be disciplined!

tbh Vitamin D is the most important thing for CV19 as low levels / deficiency have been strongly linked to severe cases

what's recommended is 25 ug / 1000 IU supplement per day

those tablets have 5 ug per tablet so it's not enough.

you can get 25 ug / 1000 IU specific Vit D tablets.

As important as vit D is, be aware that not all vitamins are equal.

They use carrier oils to suspend the vit D and not all work effectively for everyone.

We take 10000 iu per day with regiular blood tests. The average person should take 5000 iu. Tried coconut oil first and it had adverse effects. We found sunflower oil worked better.
You should also take magnesium with it to improve absorbency, 300mg is recommended

A lot of vitamins are are like 100% RDA and stuff like that and you end up with only taking in 5%. So really if you want a good multivitamin you need to get something like Solgar VM-2000. It is expensive but if you buy from the UK it is much cheaper as they layer on the tax here.

    Centrum is useless.

I used to suffer from lots of sickness colds, flu etc. I would get everything. Vit D is important for this but supplementation is generally not recommended.

    Salmon
Avenmore Super Milk is also great. I get it delivered with https://www.mymilkman.ie/ twice weekly.

Our family sickness has gone to nothing since this.

We don't get enough sunlight at this latitude in winter time to produce vitamin d. We need a good quality supplement as I said earlier.

not sure how helpful to people it is to be honest confusing matters with 5000 iu doses, blood tests and carrier oils

not many will have the time to go to such lengths and/ or possible expense

you may swear by it but the experts on the subject say that 25 ug / 1000 iu is enough and no mention of specific requirements of type or tablets or oils.

some are even recommending as low as 400 iu

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/health/coronavirus-adults-should-take-vitamin-d-researchers-say-1.4250588
Prof Kenny said most scientists would recommend between 800 and 1,000 IU – she takes the higher dose – and recommended older people be exposed to 10 to 15 minutes of sunshine daily, if possible.

regular high doses of vitamin d can cause calcium build up in the blood

taking it with a meal with some fats in it seems to be the best advice
