Is it long enough? ...... only 2 metres long .....

yeah it would be long enough, the cable that is broken is joined to another cable.

Would this be the correct cable?

It is the right cable ok but are you sure you only need 2 meters?

yes it is the right cable. all you need is coax cable. same thing used with tv. If you have ever had a spare modem from the likes of Virgin etc you may have one laying around.
out of curiosity is your dish right beside your box or something?

    thanks for the confirmation.

No, there is a longer cable connected to the satellite dish and the sky engineer connected another smaller cable to this. Mustn't have had enough of one cable at the time or something.

its the smaller cable that is broken.

You need an F connector adaptor as well but that may be already in situ, ie used by sky guy. When added to basket its about 11 euro. Have you any old sat cable lying around, not tv coax unless sat cable was used for tv . Then 2 f connectors and you must have these already, = job done and cheap.

Is the connection between the two cables inside or outside?

    Hi,

I have a broken satellite cable, looks like something chewed through it.

Is this the correct cable for running from the satellite dish to the sky box?

Just want to check prior to ordering.

    Thanks

Yes that will do you. I presume the connection is via a joiner on the existing cable to the dish ? If it is then all you need is that cable...assuming of course that another break isnt further along.

yeah the cable is outside and the connections are already there. just to replace one cable with another.

It should work then, as long as the other cable hasn't been damaged.

The difficulty with connectors outside is they are susceptible to water ingress which could destroy the signal and probably cable.

It might well be the cable has water lodged in it which is not something you want.
If that is the case the replace the full length of the cable.

So are the connections exposed to the elements? As said above you may have issues with water ingress so the cable could be damaged at the braid and core. I guess change out the cable as you are and see how you go. Using self amalgamating tape can be a good help if you have connections exposed to the elements.
