I have a 2014 Canyon Ultimate SLX 7.0. It uses the 'famous' Acros Ai-70 i-Lock headset system. I know it gets some (very) bad press but, I've had mine on my bike for 15,000 summer KMS with zero problems.

However, it now needs to be changed. I'd like to put a conventional headset 'system' on the bike.

Has anyone any information on what I need to get. I've seen somewhere online that Giant are now using the same steerer diameter and that the headsets are compatible but couldn't locate any specific details.

    Any information greatly appreciated.

That's good going to get that long out if the headset; I take it that its the headset system (grub screw won't tighten)and not the bearings that have gone?

I was looking to change to a more conventional headset after experiencing problems with the ACROS unit. Canyon offer their own expander plug, but it didn't look or feel secure when I got my hands on it. See this thread for problems with it. https://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=145772

I got back onto Canyon and got a small supply of extra grub screws and a harder wearing Torx tool. Now I'm very careful with how I set it up and I'm satisfied to leave it as it is.

Here's some more reading from an informative Reddit post. https://www.reddit.com/r/cycling/comments/bzicua/out_of_the_loop_canyon_bikes_and_headsets/ I haven't gone through it all... there are plenty of links!

I was just onto Canyon there now. They say once I use the Acros bearings any conventional headset system will work.

I now need to order the correct size expander. You don't happen to know internal diameter of the steerer, by any chance?

Well, they're 1 1/4 inch steerer tubes so something like this...https://www.aliexpress.com/i/4000028430509.html
