Self build mortgage drawdown stages

    Hi all,

In the early stage of planning a self build home. We will be using a contract builder. Understand that the mortgage for a self build will be done in drawdown stages once work has been completed. What I am wondering is for the likes of kitchens and bathrooms which we will be picking ourselves, do we have to pay for this upfront and then request the funding through our solicitor once money is released from the bank? Or is this something we invoice to our contractor?
