Reset Vodafone Gigabit router not working

    Hi all,
Having a little trouble with the gigabit router. Having pressed the reset button on the back of the router for 5+ seconds, the power light flashes and indicates that it's reset.

However, I cannot get the router to issue a DHCP that I can log into it via cable, or indeed Wifi. Neither option works. I keep getting 169.254.XXX.XXX number on both cable and wifi connected devices. Is the router busted? I've only just got it.

    Thanks,

    Cringer

Are you connecting the computer using a cable or wireless? If it's wireless then connect with an Ethernet cable.
Is there a light on the router when you connect with a cable? If not then check your cable.
If you have 2 DHCP servers that creates complete havoc on the network. Make sure there's only one device connected to it in case something is causing say a broadcast storm on the network.

169.254.XXX.XXX is what Windows assigns itself when it can't find a DHCP server.

Check if testing in isolation, with a cable gives you an IP on the network. If it still doesn't then you can assign yourself an IP address manually within the same network range as the router and see if then you can ping it.

Sometimes you get equipment that you need to talk to with no DHCP server inbetween you and the machine. So you need to manually go into the network card settings (be it on a laptop or phone, whatever) and give yourself an address.

If you still can't talk to it then it might be broken. Sometimes stuff gets indirect lighting damage, then the router looks like it works by the light but it's actually dead.
