Italian Holidays Covid Cancellation

I booked and paid a deposit on accommodation in Italy last November, The holiday was for this July. The accommodation was in a reputable campsite in Northern Italy
At the time of booking their cancellation policy was listed on their website as, 90% of my deposit being refundable if we cancelled at least 30 days before arrival. We have remained in contact with the site throughout to see what was happening. At the minute the flights (Ryanair) have not being cancelled and the campsite has said that they expect to be open for our arrival dates. Nonetheless, we decided to cancel the accommodation and requested our 90% deposit to be returned. They have since replied saying that they are now only offering vouchers to the value of the deposit, with a 12 month lifespan on the voucher. They have quoted some Italian Decree that means refunds will not be paid out and therefore they are offering vouchers only. We do not want the voucher as we have alternative plans for 2021.

Where do I stand on this?

Same here. New law passed in Italy (and elsewhere) allows this unfortunately.
We were given 2 options....cancel and get the amount were due back in vouchers OR defer and let them keep the deposit we had paid and get a voucher for that amount plus 10%.

We took the gamble that they will be still around (and that we will be able to travel) next year on the extra 10%. Not a lot anyone can do I think as this does appear to be the new law to prevent every single tourism business in Italy from going bust. It sucks but at the same time is understandable from the Italian government point of view.

It's a lazy politicians answer to a problem.
Force a random group of customers across Europe to give all Italian tourist businesses an interest free loan.
That what governments, banks and hedge funds are for!
Our shower (Humphreys and Ross) were in favour of this handy solution too.

Why didn't Italian businesses offer a fabulous voucher "that customers couldn't refuse?" :)
