French doors

I have a set of upvc french doors, master and slave setup.

Slave side hasn't been opened in the bones of a year but when i went to open it the handle just clicked down, the locking pin for the top retracted but the bottom stayed in place.

I had a similar issue last year on the master side but was able to remove the mechanism easy enough because it was on the outside of the frame.

The other doors mechanism, it only fires bolts top and bottom, appears to be behind the glazing unit.

Do i need to remove the glazing bars and glass to access this does anyone know ?

    Thanks.

Post a picture of your door and Ill see if its the same as mine.

I had the same problem as you are explaining this year, for me theres a upvc strip on the side of the door which I had to remove to gain access to the locking pin. I bought them on ebay for 6 euro each from scotland. Prior to this I called a locally window company and they wanted 150 euro call out before they do anything.

I replaced all my locking pins and lubricated with silicone spray grease and they work like new now.

Master side with mechanism visible is working.

Slave side, which fires the locking pins top and bottom, no visible mechanism, concealed.

On the slave side you see the white caps take them off and unscrew the bolts and pull the upvc profile away from the door. Once removed the door locking mechanism will look somewhat similar to the master door.

I note you say the handle on the slave pushes down and clicks releasing only the top pin....if this is the case the bottom bolt is stuck so you may be able to unscrew it at the bottom other wise use a chisel to break it lose. Best to purchase a replacement locking shoot bolt and keep safe plate before doing this. See my links below for mine, check for yours on their website. Your keepsafe plate on the frame looks rusty, so will the shoot bolt be, best to replace it as this is the reason its stuck in the first place.

Its also possible you strained the mechanism at the handle as you say its clicking, I had this problem too. Take the complete locking mechanism out and you will be able to straighten the L bracket catch at the handle which attaches to the lower shoot bolt.
