Hey could anybody tell me how does one go about changing their apprenticeship? My son is in his 2nd year electrician apprenticeship and is adamant he wants carpentry after working in it since covid

Basically he needs to find a new employer and start again.

He could apply for exemptions on the Carpentry Apprenticeship, but I think it would be pointless as there are very little common modules. I think maybe 2 he wouldn't have to repeat in Phase 2 although I'm not 100% on this.

Thanks for your reply he has found a new employer already that is eager to take him on so hopefully it goes smoothly enough

Make sure to contact his senior training advisor (SOLAS Authorised Officer) in your local ETB. They will need to fill out the relevant paperwork and get him registered to the new trade ASAP

Once he has a new employer he can basically just go back and start again, how far in is he? I presume he’s only first or second year. If he’s beyond that especially a fourth year then he might be best finishing one before going back as it’s no load to carry having more qualifications.
Apologies I see he’s in his second year, he can just quit and start the new one although as said no harm contacting solas. As Mulk has said above.

Tell him not to change employer until he speaks to Solas first. They have to approve it or else he starts from scratch. If they are happy he is competent enough to swap trades they will help him do so.
