    Hi guys,

I have my eye on a decathlon bike (triban rc120).

    https://www.decathlon.ie/ie_en/men-s-bicycle-touring-road-bike-rc120-abyss-grey-en-s302496.html

Not getting much help online with frame sizes (completely understandable at this time).

I can get this delivered in size large.

I'm 5ft 9 and was wondering if this would be too big?

I currently have a cheap jupiter centrium race bike which is a perfect size for me (no markings on the frame to illustrate the size unfortunately).

This bike is 810mm from ground to top of frame and 520mm from the front of the saddle to the handlebars.

Does anyone have any experience of decathlon sizes at all?

    Thanks for any help.

Medium is the one you'd want I'd say. Large you'd be far too stretched out and uncomfortable.

There's a geometry chart in the link you posted too.

on the listing for the RC120 on the UK site, it lists large as being for 6' - 6'3", and M for 5'8" to 6'. so M is the one you want.

Thanks lads...I was thinking medium because that is the one that is sold out!!

Any other recommendations for something in around the €400 - €500 mark for starting out on?

I really like that Triban rc120...very understated in that neutral colour and seems to come highly recommended by a few of the specialist magazines.

Maybe it will come back in stock in medium in a couple of months if/when the factories get back into action after covid?

The Disc medium seems to be in stock?

I was looking at the TRIBAN GRVL 120 and was told it wouldn't be back in stock till Mid June. So I think that may be the time frame you are looking at.

If you were prepared to stretch up to say €650 you would get the entry level for the standard makes that are stocked in most local bike shops: Giant, Trek etc. They will be using caliper brakes and come with standard Shimano components. The spare parts for these are readily available so over time the bike will be much easier to maintain.

    Thanks lads.

I went on to adverts and bought a Merida scultura 100.

First impressions are very good for a beginner. It's light...like compared to all the bikes I've had over the years it's so light.

Nice matt black finish and the cables run internal which is a nice feature.

Now I need to get out on the road!!

Can anyone recommend pedals? I'm not going to go with the "proper" clip in cyclist ones but is there any good ones for someone who will predominantly be wearing runners?
