bosch dishwasher stops working mid cycle

    Hi,
My dishwasher is stopping after fill cycle. The problem seemed to start after the dishwasher was opened when running.
I'm not familiar with dishwasher operation but with no repair centres open I stripped it down anyway and found the float chamber was full of gunk . So I cleaned it , thought I'd found the problem but its still not working despite trying reset.

    So whats happening is
    1. Power on , close door.
    2. Dishwasher fills and stops.
    3. Nothing happens then I hear a clicking noise every 60secs but no activity after that. Water remains in base of dishwasher.

    A few comments :
    1. I assume the clicking is a relay or solenoid of some sort activated by some timer.
    2. I guess the wash cycle should start after fill.
    3. I stripped down the sump, no blockages that I can see .
    4. I took out circulation motor , bottom of it was very rusty as if it was lying on the base at some stage and water got to it. However I put 220v across the terminals and it spins fine , smooth and quiet. Impeller looks ok.
    5. I took out the drain pump, same, looks ok and spun when 220v applied. Impeller looks ok.
    6. When I push up the plastic float rod the drain pump activates and drains dishwasher so I know the drain cycle is working.

The dishwasher is over 10 years old , Integrated Bosch model SGV53E03GB/56

    All suggestions welcome .

Could the control board be the issue ?

You have tried to reset it?

Try different programs e.g. Quick rinse.

I think that a rinse to soak the ware should be next after filling.

    Is it heating?

Does it think that the door is open and stops?

As it is one of the older machines at its age it is quite possible that the wiring harness coming down from the control panel has broken a lead or two at the point where it hinges at the bottom of the door edge, you would need to split the door by removing the torx screws if you find a broken wire it needs to be spliced and repaired back a few inches both sides of the break, it is common enough for this to happen as the cable gets brittle from the heat

Ah - I think I had that problem. If the float is full of crud and you cleaned it out, did you also clean out the drain from the float too?
As far as I recall, it was a small tube at the bottom of the float-chamber, and it was this which was blocked in my case.

I had similar problem with mine every time I went to use it. I reckoned the solenoid water inlet valve might be getting blocked up with deposits even though water hardness is not usually a problem.

I detached the hose and poured hot water down the pipe so it sat against the valve. I operated the dishwasher to get the valve to open. Did this a few times and seems to have fixed it as no problems a year on.

I reckon it doesn’t take well to being idle for too long.

Doesn't sound like my issue, but mine was running and then getting stuck on a drain cycle. Basically the dishwasher didn't think it had fully drained, so it kept running the pump periodically.

Ended up having to tilt the dishwasher back (quite a bit actually). Flawless ever since. Again, possibly not your issue.
