Going from Standard SIM to Nano SIM, difficult?

I currently have a phone with low enough memory (8GB) & thinking of swapping it for a 32GB phone.
My current SIM is a standard SIM & all my contacts are stored on this SIM. I wish to buy a high memory phone which takes a Nano SIM.
Is there any way to do this & keep my number & contacts for use in.new phone?
    Thanks.

Sync your phone contacts to Google now, you shouldn't be holding them on the sim it's too risky. If your sim was got in the last few years it should just convert to a nano SIM.
The same with your photos, back up to Google photos then select the free up phone memory option in Google photos once there all synced with Google.
Make sure you go into whatsapp and back up what's app to your Google drive if changing phones.

If it’s an Android / iOS phone you currently have, your contacts should just get backed to Google / iCloud etc anyways.

Converting a standard sim to nano sim without some sort of device (i.e using a scissors/knife) is awkward.

Just order a new nano sim from your provider.

Cheers for that. New phone comes with a Nano sim, (current phone is also an Android). How can I keep my current SIM, phone number & contacts? Is it difficult to do this?

You ask your network to provide a new Nano Sim and transfer your number from old sim to it. As for contacts as already suggested backup with google. Or export them to your sdcard (import them on the new phone).

I didn't think that was possible on an Android phone

Do you have more than one phone number against any of your contacts? If you do, that contact is not stored on the SIM.

If you switch to a phone which takes a nano SIM, the usual procedure (i.e. when they were open) was to go to one of your phone network's shops and ask them to swap the SIM. When the lockdown gets eased, the network shops that are not in shopping centres will open first.

Thanks. I've heard that phone retailer outlets have special devices for modifying the size of SIM cards, could a staff member cut my standard sized SIM card to Nano SIM size?

Has anyone any experience of this process?

I've seen them do it ages ago, not sure if everywhere does it, it's basically a press that cuts off the excess.

I've used a scissors to go from standard to nano with mixed success, I think it worked for me once but I tried it on someone else's and it didn't work, I cut too close etc. There are templates online if you search.

Easiest is just to go into the shop and get a new sim, they'll do it there and then, probably for free. You could probably get onto customer support on phone or online and they'll post one out. Or try cut it with a scissors first and contact them if you screw up, I suppose that's what I did.

They get a new SIM and break out the required size. There's no great skill involved, the people in the shop don't have to resort to cutting anything with a scissors, the nano just snaps out of the bigger SIM. They then phone their support centre and your phone number gets moved to the new SIM.

You could phone them, ask them to send you a SIM and when you get it and have the required size inserted in your new phone, phone and ask them to move the number.

I wouldn't go messing with your existing SIM with a scissors! You'd have no fallback plan if it goes wrong.

Many repair shops and phone shops have a device to cut the sims.

The phone shops have no need to cut the SIM, the networks supply them with an unlimited amount of new SIMs. Even independent shops like Carphone Warehouse get them for free.

Why would a phone shop take a scissors to a customer SIM when they have brand new SIMs in the stock room?

Your best solution is to Import your SIM contacts to your Google account:
    https://support.google.com/contacts/answer/1069522?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&hl=en-GB

And, Turn On Automatic Backups to keep them synced:

Then, on your new Android phone with your new SIM installed, log back into your Google Account and Restore Contacts from Backup (as also described on link above). No hacking or installing of old SIM required...

Thank you. Does the process described wipe the contacts from the old phone or SIM when they get transferred to the new phone/ SIM?

No it doesn't wipe the SIM, forget about the sim though as you won't need it for storing your contacts anymore. You contacts will be saved under contacts in your Google account going forward. Do the same with your photos and have WhatsApp back turned on as well if you use it.

Cheers so much, got all my contacts synced to the my Google Drive and synced to my new phone with no trouble. (They are now listed twice in my old phone's contacts now for some reason).

Got all my old phone's photos backed up to my Google Drive (Photos). Is there any way to get these to appear in gallery?
