Scarifying lawn with thick Moss and Thatch

    Hi all,

We recently moved house and are trying to get the back lawn sorted out for a robotic mower.

The lawn is about 1000m2, with a thick layer of Moss and Thatch.

What's the best plan of action? We are thinking of getting the lawn as short as possible, renting a scarifier (whenever that can happen), collect the waste with a mower and then overseed and a week or two later fertilize. Should we aerate the lawn as well?

Any tips or tricks? We're not looking for a picture perfect lawn, just want to get rid of the Moss and Thatch for the mower.

I'm in a similar position to you.
This guy seems pretty good. He specialises in lawns so you should get what info you're after.

If you can aerate, you should.

However, Watch the weather, it's been dry, super dry in fact of late, while grass is growing, if you go in too hot and heavy with a scarifier it will take longer for it to recover.

Also at 1000m2 it's quite large, I'd say there's a few days work in it, so factor that in to the rental + time to clear after each pass.
