Anyone know what the status with B&Bs for June/ July? I have holidays booked from work which I have to take. Original plans were cancelled due to COVID-19 and was wondering if I could fill the gap with a ' staycation ' in B&Bs instead.

Just myself on a cycling trip so there will be little issue with social distancing.

Doesn't say anything specific about opening hotels or B&Bs but at the moment the 20 km travel limit isn't due to be lifted until 20th July.

Hotels are due to open in phase 4 on 20th July. They don't mention B&Bs specifically though:

    "Opening of hotels, hostels,
    caravan parks, holiday parks
    for social and tourist
    activities initially on a
    limited occupancy basis (or
    number of people per
    square metre) and then
    increasing over time (and
    where social distancing is
    complied with). Hotel bars
    remain closed "

Yeah was kinda wondering if they might be exempt as they could facilitate small groups/ distancing easier.

I wouldn't imagine so. Obviously I have nothing concrete to base it on, but I don't see any reason they wouldn't lump B&Bs in with hotels.

It's arguable whether or not social distancing would be easier for B&Bs compared to hotels. Fewer guests, but a smaller space.

And if any guidelines are brought in in relation to hygiene/cleaning for tourist accommodation, I'd say small B&Bs would find it more difficult to comply compared to large chain hotels.

Until phase 4 is implemented on the 20th July a 20km travel restriction is in place. I can’t see why anyone woukd stay in a B and B that’s within 20km of their house.

True. Was hoping they might lift the 20 km restriction beforehand.

Am probably not the only one who might be at a loose end, holiday-wise, this summer.

Our company actually forced us to take a certain amount of annual leave within the second quarter (before the end of June ) to weather some of the virus's financial impact.

We’ve to take 10 before end of August. More so that the company’s won’t have all 7500 staff building up holidays and disappearing at the same time for extended periods.

I'd say wild camping could become popular this summer, you wont have social distancing problems then!
