Best way to clean tarmac

Hi folks Doing a bit around the mother's house at the moment. The driveway has never really been cleaned so is in fairly bad shape. What's the best way to clean it? I've seen people apply washing detergent first. And then a light power wash. Any suggestions? Cheers.

Like you said. I'd power wash the heavy off then washing powder, bit of water give it a good scrub with a yard brush and power wash away.
