How do you calculate your livestock units for beam? How many units is a under 12 months animal and how many units for between 12 months to 24 months and how many units for over 24 months?tryed searching online for figures and I got .6 for under 24 months and 1 for over 24 months, would this be right? Or is that a unit based on an animal been on farm monthly

    Suckler cow = 65kgs
    Cattle >2years old = 65kgs
    Cattle 1-2 years old = 57 kgs
    Cattle 0-1 years old = 24 kgs

I see that under Exceptional Aid measures on Agfood.ie it shows every two months how farmers are on target to reach the reduction,

Thanks for that, I’m not on ag food, those figures you quoted are they yearly or monthly? If monthly how does it work if an animal changes age during the Period how do you calculate it then?

Those figures are yearly. If an animal changes age during the year i suppose that you take the lower value for the period of the year before its birthday and the higher value for the period of the year after its birthday.

My own value is around 3500kgs so need to reduce by 5%, approximately 175kgs. So i'm going to keep three less cows and four less yearlings on July 1st 2020 than i had on July 1st 2018 and sell the same amount of cattle at roughly the same time between July 2020 and June 2021 to make sure i stay under the target figure.
You should really start using Agfood.ie. If you can use this Boards.ie you'll be well able to use Agfood. It's a very useful website, especially for registering calves and keeping track of payments etc.

Thanks for that,it is tricky enough to meet the criteria for beam, I was hoping with the current situation that they might abolish the set targets
