    Dear Boardies,

Did u ever try to fix measure tape? I do have one which needs a fix, it's a Stanley DualLock (8 m). I can get brand new, but I prefer to try fix this one first.

For some of their bigger more expensive tape measures Stanley used to sell replacement cartridges but I can't see the point just buy a new one they are a disposable item and wear out. I can hardly read anything on the first 6 inches of one of mine.

If yours won't retract then have fun wear gloves and goggles while you investigate the problem before throwing it in the bin. btw it will be much easier to throw it away whilst its still mostly coiled up than if its all pulled out - I speak from experience

I will upload two pictures of the measure tape after disassemble. It's something wrong with spring

Another option is to reuse the old tape. A timber yard I use has them nailed out along the feed track for all their machines so its easy to set up the machines for timber lengths. Next one that I need to throw out will get nailed out down the side of a shed for quick timber measure I can't loose.

The method is the same between those two tapes, the mechanism hasn't changed.

Of course you can fix it. Just give it a go.

I've fixed ones in the past purely because they were a month old and I wasn't buying a new one.

    Take your time

Ha, I'm not so techy :)

I think I would need another step by step video how to with exact same model of measure tape.

It's f.......ed, accidentally I broked say like 20 cm of the spring at the the other end, so it's useless now.

As long as you still have all your fingers, two eyes and no major new scars thats all good.
