Watch and Home insurance

    Hello folks,

Just wondering if anyone could help.

My home insurance is up for renewal and my watch is adding around 45 euro to my current policy. (Zurich)

I’ve gotten way cheaper quotes from other insurers but then when I add the watch it adds almost 300 Euro to the policy making the policy then marginally dearer.

    Any advice/info appreciated

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Even an extra EUR45 is quite a lot, what watch is it and what value have you it insured for? My home insurance went up by about EUR15 for the year when I added my Omega Seamaster, I think I put a value of EUR1400 on it. But I suppose EUR45 is fair enough if it is a EUR6k Rolex

It’s pretty much exactly the latter.

It’s not the45 I’m concerned about, it’s the fact it adds like 300 quid onto an An Post quote I got for €230

I looked into adding a few watches to my house insurance last year and it sent the overall quote up by more that 100%!

The agent on the phone recommended specialist insurers. I completely let it slide though and haven't done much about it since then. Would anyone have a recommended insurer, or do you simply add any valuable watches to your house insurance?

My insurance renewed automatically over the bank holiday so I’ll have to put my concerns off for another year.

Would be still curious to hear if anyone has them insured elsewhere

I insure with my home insurance, its expensive usually a watch adds 150 - 200 euro a year, although the more expensive the watch there is not a linear relationship to the increase in costs. I have an offsite deposit box also, but thats not the handiest thing in the world if you like changing watches and more for da wifes jewellery.

I looked into a few companies that do specific watch and jewellery policies and I was shocked how expensive they were. Asking 2k for a year and talking like that was normal. Also a lot of restrictions on you regarding valuations and safes. One insurer would only insure if I had a 5k safe installed and only a safe they approved.
