The term "White Elephant" came into existence apparently when an Indian Diplomat gave an actual albino or white elephant as a gift to a very irritating nosey servant.

So what I would like to find out is, what sort of "white elephants" would you like to give your frienemies and other annoying relatives etc. Don't worry about how much it would cost you.

Myself, I'd give them the "ZX Spectrum Vega" device. Piece of junk. Built as a a piece of 'retro' tech like the Nintendo Classic .

Or € 2 disposable camera. Don't tell the nooch how much the dispoable camera cost and tell them to make sure it's process ed promply

There's a lot of things that are artificially expensive because of pork bellying , like NASA.

But if you want a genuine money pit few things come close to a half built nuclear power plant.

A children's hospital would never be a white elephant. Unlike a metaphorical white elephant, a hospital will always be put to good use in the service of society.

I gave my father a flux capacitor for his birthday.

Still has it in the garage in 2025.

That's a racist phrase nowadays, it's now known as an elephant of no colour!

Solar panels? My neighbour spent 10k on them to save 500 a year. I told him I got 1000l off oil for e400 last week to annoy him!

Find out what spec computer they have.

Then get them a one year subscription to a multiplayer game that's just barely usable with it.

Or buy their daughter a white pony.

So much connected with Olympics, World Cups and other large scale sporting tournaments.

Two Royal Navy air to surface targets aircraft carriers. 10 billion quid and literally a 20th century tactical response.

The Spire on O'Connell St. If it disappeared in the morning, would anyone miss it?

Anyway, I have to go... 2003 just called and they want their opinion back.

Nuclear weapons are a total waste of money
We have global trade between most countrys even China or Russia would not use them. the soviet union
failed because it could not compete or produce modern
products for its citizens. If a country wants to go to war
using cyber war is a lot easier than building nuclear weapons
I think Tg4 is a waste of money how many people will bother watching Irish language programs?
