    Hi,

    Perhaps somebody here could assist.
Has Ireland ever changed its Labour laws in order to attract multinational corporations?

    Thanks,
    Mike

I don't think it has overtly. However, there may have been changes that were intended for one thing that that ended up making things more attractive to MNCs, e.g. the ban on third-party strikes.

In general the motivation behind Ireland's pursuit of foreign investment has been to promote the growth of high-quality employment in Ireland, and create good job opportunities for people in Ireland. The strategy therefore has never been to lower wage rates, promote insecurity of employment, reduce employment rights, etc, etc, but rather to invest in education and training to develop a highly-skilled, high-productivity workforce that investors will wish to attract and retain. Degrading employment standards would run counter to this strategy, and isn't something which would attract investors of the type that Ireland has traditionally sought.
