Hi Lads, just had a ewe die last night, 2 lambs about 3 weeks old.

Had got grass tetany and we dosed with mg and ca as per vets recommendation but she didn't recover.

2 questions, do we call the knackery and cut out the rfid tag or what do we do with it? Haven't lost a sheep since changing to the new tags.

What to do with the lambs, they are about 3 weeks, good and strong, we have no other ewes that lost a lamb.

Leave the tag on the ewe, ring the knackery to collect the ewe and record her death on the flock register.

Your best bet with the lambs would be bottle feeding them, I think. Give them access to some ration and water along with some grass or hay and hopefully you can wean them in a few weeks?

    Call the knackery

and make out a dispatch document. Leave the tag in situ.

Fill in details in your flock register.

Get a bag of lamlac for the lambs and try to bottle feed them.. Maybe start them on a bit of lamb ration as well.

Edit. The sheriff types faster than me.
