British Gypsum bonding coat instead of cement for filling in joist gaps

    With the current hardship of getting materials and building supplies, I was wondering if BG bonding coat would do instead of cement to fill in gaps around joists as shown in the picture as I've loads of that lying around.

    Bonding will certainly work, but it does absorb moisture very easily so it's not comparable to sand/ cement mortar. Shouldn't be a problem on the internal leaf of a cavity wall.

    The photo I posted was a stock photo found online. 2am when I posted.

    The mortar was in much worse condition and was nearly possible to pull the lose bits out by hand.
