    hi.

I am looking at flat roof construction and was wondering if it would be ok to use slightly decreasing thickness battens installed across the joists to create the 1 in 40 fall in the roof rather than firrings ?

I am thinking of going with a flat roof to keep the roof height down as my neighbor is the type to cause me some issues and I rather stay well inside the 3 meters where possible.

Cold roof will save me 100 mm !

    Thanks

To be honest it's easier to cut either a 4x2
(Or whichever size is needed to obtain a fall ) down along the lenght in to a firing piece. Than to source a load of decreasing sized lengths and space them correctly to suit.

A good 9 inch circular saw with a sharp 24 tooth gen purpose blade would rip them down in no time set it out to get 2 firrings out of each lenght.
