Can anyone suggest a good pressure washer for domestic use? It's for a detached house with a driveway around it and pebble dashed walls.

I'm a member of Which? but the Best Buys start at £160 without a hose reel.

Currently have a tiny Karcher but it keeps overheating and it's not powerful enough.

    TIA

in the same boat after Karcher K4 hose reel broke off and now it's leaking water internally in the body...

    Budget?

Don't really have a budget but cheap as possible

    Nilfisk is mentioned a lot....

I won't be buying karcher again, very dissatisfied with how used my K4 3 times, it sat up 8 months now won't work.

Was never left out or frost damage is a no too.

Karcher marketing is much bigger than its R&D and QC departments.
I can't count how many times I have heard people complaining about Karcher pressure washers.
OP I would suggest making out a plan of the area you need to clean and how often.
Once you have an idea of that make a budget, as you have found you get what you pay for with washers.
If you want cheap I would think an entry level Nilfisk washer C125 would do what you want within reason.
I saw a brand new one on Done deal for €175 is that outside your budget?
As an alternative Husqvarna have started doing washers as well they have a reasonably priced one @€;155
I think because they are new to the washer game they will start with low prices and build them up as they gain traction.

I got the Nilfisk C110 a couple of years ago. Use it for washing the car and cleaning the drive way a couple of time. It's chucked into the back of the shed and works every time I take it out. Cheap, no frills, no maintenance. It's got a metal pump rather than plastic. It's a low power one but suits my tasks just fine.

You could spend a bit more on a more powerful version if required.

I got a Karcher k2 years ago. Wash the cars nearly every week with it. Have done the patios/footpaths for the last 3 years and my brother/dad both use it and it’s been rock solid.

Spends all its time in a wooden shed and tbh never really looked after.

+1 on the Nilfisk.... Not suitable for heavy work but good around the house for the common or garden jobs as described.
Not sure of the model, but the one I have has a metal pump, more robust than the plastic ones on many of the he Aldi/Lidl ones

Yeah I got c110 for about 70 euros, metal pump no issues. Can't complain for the price

Kranzle is the best electric washer if you want a washer that will last. They are expensive around 400 onwards

there's a stanley one on screwfix that looks a decent spec for €145

in fairness to my karcher one, it worked perfectly for the last 10 years at both my house and my parents. It fell over a couple of weeks ago and the hose reel broke off, but this could also have damaged the internals leading to the leak.

there's a K4 with full set there too for €296

CJHaughey -do you have any link to the husqvarna?

I've had a good few of them but honestly very disappointed with such an expensive one which was the most I've ever spent on them and it doesn't last.... Not good....

Yes, I got mine on Amazon which is around £75 atm.

As mentioned, it's not a powerful beast, but it's perfect for the odd jobs around the garden / cleaning the car. If you were to use it often, I'd suggest a more powerful version. Using it only a couple of times a year and mostly for the car? Then this will be perfect for the price. Metal pump in it which is a huge advantage over the karcher cheap versions.

    the Nilfisk https://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/7888201/Trail/searchtext%3EPRESSURE+WASHER.htm

    this one in lidl: https://www.lidl.ie/en/p/great-gardens/2400w-pressure-washer/p40580

or some karcher one, but from whats been said Nilfisk seems to be the best choice

Nilfisk. Still going strong anykarcher we owned gave up after about a year. Would never buy one again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭FluffPiece

yes mate, that's the one I got.

If you need something more powerful, there's more in the range but that's the one I got for the basic stuff. Works a treat

My aul Karcher is ancient and still going strong, I got it on the never never from an ESB shop, we're talking stone age here!! I don't wash the car with it but haul it out every year for the annual concrete wash down and there's never a bother with it. Be careful with some of the cheapo ones as the lance doesn't produce a proper fan just a thin useless needle shaped jet of water, which is enough to drive you nuts.

Same here, mine is 5 years old.
I don't know about other brands and even pressure washers in general, but this one has been a brilliant tool. It's also very easy to find accessories - I got a foam sprayer, drain power jetting (this one alone paid for itself and for the full set) and extension high pressure hose.

The Lidl one looks to be substantially more powerful ...and cheaper.

Surely its a no brainer

and what about the petrol power washer from Lidl €229... again a big step up in power from the others....it would be my personal choice, (I wouldn't mix water and electricity)

lidl one does not come with a patio cleaner I think

so if you had choice of nilfisk or lidl, you would go lidl

On the look out myself for one, I need one that draws the water from a tank. The water pressure at my hse isn't good enough to keep one going off the mains.

If you are looking at Nilfisk then I think the E series and above can draw water from a butt or similar.
The equivalent Husqvarna model is PW 350 or higher.

+1 for Nilfisk got C110 version below 7 years ago used around the garden and for car washing still going strong only had to replace hose last year.

Does this come with a brush to wash the car?

Don’t bother with the brush for the car washing. Better off with a wash mitt and use the pressure washer to rinse off.

Out of interest. What’s the round brush that comes with the Lidl one. (Not a patio brush) Is that for windows or the metal part of a car.

Its for a car but i'd say it would do more damage to the paint work than clean the car

I was lucky and got this in a lidl today. The Parkside phd 170 A1.

In regard to the brush, what would you use it for? Seems to be a rotating brush and manual says don’t apply force, just wondering what it would be used for

That brush is a deck brush, you put it on and clean a deck or patio.

I don’t think it is. It’s a smaller type brush. Think it’s for windows or a garage door etc.

Would you know if the Lidl or Aldi ‘Patio Cleaners’ work with this?

Do you find the hose a bit short. Think it’s 5 metres.

Some of the nilfisks have a problem in that the little high pressure switch in the pump body can stick - it means a small tear down and waggle waggle of the switch until it frees up and good to go again. I have had too C120 and C110, I could not tell any difference between them, but pecs say 120 is slightly better. Hose in both aint great - as said, find for around the house and driveway, if you dont brute it.

    in argos they have

    1. A Nilfisk C 120 with 6 metre hose, patio cleaner and car wash brush for 120 Euro.

    2. A Nilfisk C 125 with 8 metre Hose. NO patio cleaner. NO car wash brush. 120 Euro.

not sure which is best choice. the Patio cleaner seems handy
