Gas Boiler Replacement

Hi all, I'm looking for some advice in relation to replacing my gas boiler.

My 12 year old Heatline boiler has eventually packed up and I need to replace it asap. It is heating 4 rads downstairs and 5 rads upstairs as well as the hot water. Typical 3 bed semi with 3 zones on the timer.

Should I replace this with a new boiler and keep the system that I currently have, or should I get rid of the hot water tank and put in a new system? I don't know much about what the new system would involve, is it a combi boiler I would need?

If I am to do a straight swap is there any brand of boiler I should go with/avoid? The Heatline broke my heart trying to get parts, even servicing.

I will obviously be get a RGII certified installer, I would just like to get an idea of what I should go with before I contact anyone.

I would appreciate any advice that anyone here might have.

There is nothing wrong with having stored hot water like you have so keeping your cylinder doesn’t have to be a bad thing, if you wanted better performance you could look at a unvented cylinder.

Combis are a good option but usually there would be a reason to change design like poor tap water performance or the need for more space but remember unless you fit a electrical shower you will lose your immersion on the cylinder which is a back up hot water provider if your gas boiler stops running.

When fitting a combi it will change the characteristics of the heating and hot water which for some it can be a annoyance.

If it were me I would first find a good RGI as we can be a mixed bunch who will then help you choose a boiler they think will suit your needs, you will have to ask questions about warranty and back up services especially if you choose a boiler with a long warranty this will protect you from your Heatline problems being repeated. You may also want to look at improved controls to squeeze the best out of your new boiler, Gary

Thanks for that, I think I would like to keep the system that I have, I already have an electric shower, the only hot water I use is for the sinks and the odd bath. I have used the immersion for the first time in about 6 years since the boiler packed up!

I'll try to get an RGI so and see what they recommend, I hope I won't have too much trouble getting one out given the current situation with lockdown etc.

    Thanks again for your help.
