Code 55: 2010 Opel Insiginia (DPF Issue)

    Hello

My piece of **** Insignia is having another issue with the DPF, the dash is displaying code 55 which means:

'Diesel particulate filter, regeneration producer quantity of the
    DPF regeneration cycles too high.'

I've tried to do a manual regeneration twice, took it out for twenty minutes the last two nights, tried to keep as close to 3,000 revs as possible, made no difference and the error message still appears.

Car is driving fine but the fuel economy is gone to ****, can't say for certain but would be getting around 20mpg, also, when I turn off the car, there is a noise coming from the engine for around 15 to 20 seconds. Sounds like the fan but possibly something else.

Is it worth me taking it out for a longer spin to see if I can clear the DPF? I've never had this warning message on the dash before, usually if there is an issue with the dpf, the engine management light will display on the dash and I lose power but this appears to be something different

Just to note, the DPF was taken out and cleaned 4 months ago and there was additive added. Not had any issues since then but the car has only done very small journeys (suburb/city driving) since lock down was announced around 6 weeks ago so this probably has ****ed up the dpf as it's not been taken out for a proper drive since

    Thanks

If the DPF was removed and cleaned so recently I'd ring the people that did it and get their input.
    You saw this yeah https://www.techtips.ie/Hella-Ireland/opel-insignia---driver-information-centre-shows-code-55-or-check-dpf.pdf

I'll ring them tomorrow, think there is a coolant issue which might explain the noise when I turn off the car

Id say the intercooler pipe has blown. Usually the one on the right when you look into the bonnet. It rips about halfway down - close to the hard plastic elbow on it.

Usually throws code 55 on the dash. And the sound youre hearing is probably the hiss of the burst pipe.

Vey common on that year Insignia.

Would that be a very expensive fix?

I think the pipe is around 190 + vat. The thing is its a pig to fit. The easiest way is to drop the bumper off. But you can do it with it on with perseverance.

It's actually quite easy to fit but you need to work through the fog light opening in the bumper :)
Also, you won't be able to see the rip if it's there, you can feel in though.

Id have to disagree that's its "quite easy". While you can get at the bottom clip on the pipe through the fog light cover theres very little room to get the metal clip off and back on.If you've done a few of them you might get it first time but if you haven't its a difficult job. That metal clip has a habit of rotating on the pipe and trying to line it back up can be an absolute nightmare.

Its definately not a job for someone in their garden to do. And its also a lot easier if you can get it on a ramp and have it at shoulder height.

Would it be something like this? Seeing quite a range in prices online

    https://www.ebay.ie/itm/VAUXHALL-INSIGNIA-2-0-DIESEL-TURBO-INTERCOOLER-INLET-HOSE-PIPE-23163574-NEW-OE/302614255142?hash=item4675371626:g:TD8AAOSwc6JaaLVl

I already pumped €400 into when I had the DPF issues, probably talking at least another €300 to get this sorted (I wouldn't be able to fix it myself)

No it should be part number 23163578 assuming that's the one that's gone.
Its on the right looking into the bonnet.Left side if sitting in the car.

Well, I'm not going to argue, just tell you that I did it first time, and mine even came without the plastic elbow so I had to reuse the old one. In the front garden, with home tools and I'm no mechanic.
