Car locking automatically

I have a 2008 Peugeot 207 and in the last few days it's started to lock automatically. When I get in or out, the central locking locks the car when I close the door. I push the switch when I am driving to unlock it, but if I am stopped in traffic it will lock again as soon as I start moving.

    Any clues?

I think you have 2 separate things going on there.

Locking when moving is normal and can probably be turned off. The locking when you close the door is a fault and will leave you locked out of the car at some stage.

Not sure about the Peugeot itself, but on some cars you can actually change this in settings on the dashboard
I know it's on my wifes Alfa 159 and you can scroll through various settings and either enable or disable it

Sounds like two separate issues (or features) I've had cars where:

    - The car will auto-lock when you are moving above say 10km/h and stay locked until you either open it manually or stop the car. You can usually disable this feature in the settings.

    - The car will auto-lock if only a driver gets in and out after you exit the vehicle for X number of seconds and the car is off. The car will also auto-lock if you unlock it and no one gets in. The car detects other passengers by weight in the seats or doors being opened. It's more common on cars with keyless entry as they won't lock if the keys are in the car or in the boot.

I'd check if your car has either of these features, and they are off, before investigating further.

Actually reading colms reply, it does seem very odd alright that it locks on just closing the door. It's normally just speed related

Quick google on this suggests it’s a common issue.

Thanks all. Since this just started happening over the weekend it was more confusing, as I haven't been fiddling with the settings. It's very much an annoyance rather than an issue.

Had the battery run flat and been recharged? Perhaps it has reset to default settings if it had.

Apparently the fix is usually a new lock

Nope, hasn't even been to the garage lately.

I will just have to live with it for a while longer then!

Got one! I had thought of that. I never leave the key in the car anyway. It warns me when I open the door if the key is in the ignition.

Knew twas French when I saw that headline,,,,,sane with an older Citroen I had,I reset it , disconnected for battery for an hour or so,wired for a while then back again, sensor acting up somewhere, changed fuses and disconnected battery again, worked till I got rid of it 3 months later, TBH I think water got in the door somehow and damaged something,as in dry weather tbe problem was intermittent

Same, I had a Polo that cost me more than I paid for it second hand so when I had the cash I went for the first second hand car with a large boot that I could afford. My mother loves her French cars and the local mechanic sure as hell loves that too.

Did some more googling and see that this is a common problem with 207s anyway and parts needs replacing (can't remember what exactly) but not a big job. I wouldn't do it myself so will wait till things are more "normal" and bring it to the garage. NCT in July so better sort it just in case.

No way of knowing yet if there will be an NCT service in July.
If you can live with it for now you might as well wait until the Breakers, Mechanics (and the NCT) get back to normal.

As above, door lock units develop faulty microswitches but usually that prevents the doors from locking, i.e. the computer thinks a door is ajar and so doesn't send the lock command to the door locks. Your symptoms sound more like a shorted wire in the door loom, maybe check for any damaging in the rubber conduit for the door loom between driver door and the A pillar.

No sign of damage anywhere round the door, given how common it appears to be it's probably just wear and tear. I have fixed it temporarily using a hint I saw on another forum, using the key to manually unlock the door. Or maybe it was cause I then drove off without closing the door properly. I won't question it, it worked.
