Toilet won't stop flowing - advice?

    Hi,

The toilet cistern won't stop filling in my parents house. The excess water just flows gently into the actual toilet constantly. Only a really recent thing but was hoping someone could advise.

There was a loose flexible hose bit at the bottom of the tank but not sure where that gets connected or if it has anything to do with the problem.

    Could anyone advise? TIA.

Not sure if it will help or not, but our toilet was recently doing the same thing. After some fiddling, the mechanism which pushes the flush button down in the cistern was stuck about 1cm down as if a flush had been started, which kept the water trickling into the toilet.
