Hi all, so we got a 6 month old collie, both parents are good working dogs but the puppy is so shy and scared. He will not even walk on a lead or come over to you at all and tries to run away given the chance. I know it takes time for them to get used to the new situation but we have had him 2 weeks and he is still no better. Will not eat in front of us and tail is always between its legs.
Has anyone any advice in how to get him to trust us more, we want to get him working on cattle eventually. TIA

    Not easily sorted.
Did you see the litter, or were you just handed the pup?
    Is pup seriously inbred?
Pups need a hell of a lot of socialisation from day 9 until 6-8mts.
A very shy/nervous pup will be almost impossible to train, and they need to be mentally very strong to work cattle.

I’d give him back or try to exchange.

He came from a friend/neighbour so we trusted that the conditions would be fine and he is not inbred.
He was one of 2 and was only looked after by a man on his own so i suppose socialisation would have been limited.
Its a pity as he is a cute little fella, thanks for the advise will probably give him back so.
